Here are additional details.
- Vocalist candidates will be auditioning with the band on Monday, March 18. If that date doesn’t work, another Monday night can be arranged if possible.
- The main vocalist determines which events he/she can perform before the second vocalist is offered the remaining performance dates.
- The vocalists and director work together to select music to be performed. Typically, Washington Band vocal music includes patriotic, Broadway, swing standards, and religious music. (While other genres are great, there are not many arrangements from other genres for concert bands. However, the director is open to all kinds of music if arrangements exist.)
- Vocalists are expected to rehearse with the band for at least two rehearsals before performing that season’s music in any public performance. The band rehearses Monday evenings from 7:30-9:00 PM at 35 North Lancaster Street in Annville.
- Vocalists will be singing into a microphone while performing and will often need to arrive early for performances to complete a sound check with the band.
- While the band members usually wear white tops and black pants and shoes, vocalists often wear any appropriate attire of any color.
- The Washington Band of Annville is an all-volunteer organization. None of the Washington Band’s members (director included) is compensated for performances.
- Vocalists are welcome to play an instrument in the band when not singing, but it is not a requirement.
